Background

Freelance Web developer | Since April 09

Since leaving my last fulltime post I have been freelancing doing small websites for companies including HMRC, Parliament, CokeCola. As a certified Paypal Developer, I’ve offered consultancy to numerous small firms.

I regularly add new features to the knarly.com CMS system, and have created many websites which it supports - see knarly.com/sites_aboard_knarly/ <> System Developer at Arete-Consulting | Sept 06 - April 09 | London.

I was one of the leading developers of the structuredretailproducts website and internal content management system.

I built online tools for banks and fund managers to search and navigate the extensive products database using HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, MySQL, Linux, Apache and AJAX content management tools - to reduce the latency in our web applications. I developed: database architecture, query optimization, caching and load balancing techniques, to deliver content seamlessly to the end user.

I introduced the small team to code abstraction techniques including Smarty and ADOdb, Apache manipulation. And I designed and developed the content management system of the SRP Magazine and Arete-Consulting websites.

PHP Developer at Underground Digital Media (UDM) | Dec 04 – Sept 06 | Essex:

I worked with graphics designers building pixel perfect websites using HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, MySQL and Linux. I was the developer of the large catalogue and price comparison website, books.co.uk. I used SOAP and REST web-services, and CLI PHP to build the price comparison and to update the catalogue. I was a bit of a one-man-band, negotiating and creating affiliates contracts, monitoring click-throughs, tracking sales and providing reports.

I worked on football.co.uk stats. Which listed all the team games, who scored, who won, etc.. The information was provided by a third party. I developed the system with XSLT, C#, SQLServer, Windows Server to update the database and HTML, CSS graphs, PHP and IIS on the front end.

MSc Computer Distributed Science | Sept 03 – Oct 04 | Greenwich University, London. Studied Distributed Database Management & Web Applications and Design. Projects included building a shopping cart. I was offered a job at UDM and left the two year course after the first year.
